Dowagiac falls to Paw Paw 20-7

PAW PAW — Seventeen unanswered first quarter points were all host Paw Paw needed in its 20-7 win over Dowagiac in Wolverine West Division action Friday night.

A 99-yard run by Ian VanDenBurg highlighted the first quarter for the Redskins, who improved to 4-3 on the season.

Paw Paw got a Phelen Brennan 25-yard field goal to open the scoring, whiel Jacob Vorse hauled in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Jay Doll to complete the first quarter barrage.

Dowagiac’s only touchdown came in the second quarter on a 1-yard Bryce Dodd quarterback keeper.

Brennan capped the scoring in the third quarter with a 33-yard field goal.

The Redskins finished with 394 yards in total offense compared to 238 for the Chieftains.

Doll led the way for Paw Paw with 151 yards rushing on 20 carries. He also was 9-of-17 for 93 yards.

VanDenBurg finished with 125 yards on nine carries.

Dowagiac leading rusher Brandon Hatch was shut down by the Redskins’ defense as he gained just 25 yards on 13 carries.

Lazaro Piedra was the Chieftains’ top rusher with 62 yards on 14 attempts.

Dowagiac (3-5) will wrap up the regular season Friday night at Berrien Springs.
