Katty’s life began in Hornersville, Missouri, on June 25, 1936, to Clarence and Hazel (Fann) Gentry. On June 28th, 1956, she married the love of her life, Carlin Gordon at the Baptist Church in Riverside, Michigan. Together they raised four children, three daughters and one son; Deborah (Larry) Simpson of Arkansas, Carolin (Greg) Sedlar of Dowagiac, Linda (Dale) Stilwell of Dowagiac and Bobby Joe (Shelly) Gordon of Dowagiac.

Katty also leaves three sisters and one brother; Verda Buroff of Coloma, Glenda Sisk of Edwardsburg, Kathy Brannon of Springfield, Missouri, and Bill Gentry of Pollard, Missouri.

She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews, friends and her extended church family who she loved so dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters; Lavenda, Vonda, Charlene and one brother Clarence “Buddy” Gentry and by one great granddaughter Madison.

Katty was a devoted wife and wonderful mother. She loved cooking and it was known that she always had an extra place at her table for a stranger. She loved going to rummage sales and picking up “early Christmas gifts” for her grandchildren.

She enjoyed sewing and there was never an empty buttonhole. She never missed a canning season and the pantry was always stocked with fresh canned fruits and vegetables. She also enjoyed looking at family photos and sharing albums with family and friends with abundant stories that went with each photo. One of her favorite sayings was, “I’m okay!”

Her friends and family will gather on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Keeler General Baptist Church, 63627 Territorial Rd, Hartford, Michigan, followed by a Celebration of Her Life at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ephrain Maya officiating. She will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac following the service.

Friends and family will gather back at the Keeler General Baptist Church for a time of food and fellowship following the committal service. Memorials in her honor may be given to the Keeler General Baptist Church, 63627 Territorial Rd, Hartford, Michigan 49057.
