OTSEGO — The Wolverine Conference West Division golf race got a bit closer Tuesday.

Sturgis defeated host Plainwell by six strokes (183-189) to move within a point in the overall standings.

The Trojans now have 38 points, while Sturgis has 37 points. South Haven and Allegan and tied for third with 23 points. Dowagiac is eighth with 6 points.

Maddie Tran of Plainwell shot 39 to earn medalist honors on her home course.

Dowagiac was led by Kelsey Smith’s 55.
