In addition to offering all new thrills and scares this season, the Niles Haunted House Scream Park will welcome the actor that portrayed the psychotic killer Michael Myers in John Carpenter’s classic horror film, “Halloween.”

Tony Moran will appear at the Scream Park, located at 855 Mayflower Rd., Niles, from 8 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Sept. 20.

Moran, the older brother of Erin Moran, who played Joanie in the television series “Happy Days,” will be available on the midway to meet with fans and sign autographs.

Pete Karlowicz, manager of the scream park, said fan response to Moran’s appearance has been overwhelming. More than 38,000 people, Karlowicz said, saw a post on the park’s Facebook page about Moran coming.

“This man has an incredible following,” he said. “I’m not sure what to expect on that weekend. There could be a lot of people here.”

How did the park secure the celebrity?

One of the park’s employees, Virgil Taylor, is a huge fan of Moran and gave him a call. Moran agreed to come and to allow Taylor to be his personal driver for the weekend.

“He (Taylor) is in heaven. He can’t wait for it,” Karlowicz said.

All new scares

Now in its 41st season, the Niles Haunted House Scream Park changes its attractions from year to year.

It makes for a brand new experience for even Scream Park regulars.

“That is our trademark,” Karlowicz said. “Many haunted houses change a room or two, but we redo everything. Some of our popular attractions are still there, but with a new twist.”

The park opens for the season Friday, Sept. 12 and closes Saturday, Nov. 8. It is open most evenings on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between those dates. Check out the website, haunted.org for a full schedule.

Here is the lineup of this year’s six attractions:

• Niles Haunted House: Misfit Monster Mansion — Take a step back in time as you tour the homes of the most lovable Halloween families in this year’s main attraction. It features 100 possible routes and sets designed by professional artists.

• Curse of the Dark Walker — Tour this historic estate to see firsthand what becomes of befriending vampires.

• Tomb of the Undead 3D — Journey through the ancient ruins of Necropolis: The City of the Dead in this 3D adventure.

• Field of Screams: Legends of Horror — This outdoor maze will have visitors walking in circles. Don’t make a wrong turn.

• Dark Terrortory Haunted Hayride: Museum of the Macabre — Not a typical fall hayride through the woods.

• Zendor Presents: Igor’s Hi-Tech Mystery Tour — Dr. Frankenstein’s infamous assistant returns.

Also, for one night only, the park will turn off all the lights and allow visitors in groups to experience the attractions with just the aid of a glow stick. It will occur from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8.

In addition to being one of the best Haunted House’s in the country, the Scream Park is a non-profit that has generated more than $1.3 million for local charities.
