SOUTH BEND — The Niles JV volleyball team lost a tough match against South Bend St. Joe Wednesday.

“The girls came out very timid and scared,” Niles JV coach Sammee Schaller said. “

They started to feel more comfortable at the end of the first set, but a little too late. South Bend St. Joe had a great serving team and beat us at our serve receive. We will be putting a lot of work in at practice this week to get ready for the Portage Central tournament.”

Niles freshmen

The Niles freshmen volleyball team fell to South Bend St. Joe in straight sets Wednesday, 12-25 and 22-25.

“We started out very slow and made silly errors that put us behind early,” Niles coach Samantha Zimmerman said. “They were a good serving team and we were on our heels, letting St. Joe lead the game for us. We turned it on in the second set, but again silly errors and not scoring enough off our serve hurt us in the end. We head to the Portage Northern Invitational Saturday.”
