Niles girl turns 6, celebrates with fair showmanship win

Isabella Carr was dressed for success.

Wearing bright pink boots, a matching plaid pink shirt and pink glasses, the Niles six-year-old was destined to stand out at her first beef showmanship competition Wednesday at the Berrien County Youth Fair.

When it was all done, she stood on top of her showmanship division — the youngest available at the fair.

“It was fun,” said Carr, who was named grand champion beef showman in the 5-year-old division.

The trophy served as icing on the birthday cake for Carr, who turned six Wednesday.

The pink cowgirl boots were a present from her mom, Becky, last year. The family celebrated it in a fair gazebo located a few steps away from the show arena in which

Isabella competed.

Soon, Isabella’s name will be etched into the showmanship trophy right below the name of her brother, Gavin Carr, who won the same showmanship class last year.

“I was hoping she would do well today,” Becky said.

Isabella will be attending the first grade this fall at Buchanan Community Schools.

Niles had two other showmanship champions at Wednesday’s beef show.

Trent George won the junior division, while Tori DeMeyer finished first in the young junior division.
