Wagel secures Republican nomination for county commissioner

The chairperson of the Cass County Board of Commissioners is moving on to the general election in November, according to unofficial poll results released by the Cass County Clerk’s Office.

Robert Wagel, of Dowagiac, secured the Republican nomination for district one commissioner, edging out challenger Alexander Lazarus, also of Dowagiac, by a vote of 356 to 249. Wagel carried all four voting precincts in the district, with the following numbers:

Wagel: 11

Running against Wagel in the fall will be Democrat James Jerue, who ran opposed for his party’s nomination.

All results are unofficial until assessed by the state canvassers, according to county clerk Monica Kennedy.
