The future of public transportation in Niles was bolstered by a strong backing from voters during Tuesday’s primary election.

A millage renewal of a half mill for Niles Dial-A-Ride was approved by a vote of 359 to 118, according to Election Magic.

That means the public transit service will receive approximately $97,000 a year for the next two years.

Niles Dial-A-Ride is celebrating its 40th year in operation.

The proposal passed overwhelmingly in all four precincts.

Niles 1 voted in favor 57-20, while Niles 2 voted 86-32, Niles 3 62-33 and Niles 4 154-43.
