It is time to exercise your right to vote

It is once again time to get out and cast your vote.

Michigan will hold its primary election on Tuesday and there are several key races that need your attention.

During the last few days, we have published several candidate profiles for people in contested races for the August primary. Prior to the November election, we will run candidate profiles on all candidates vying for office.

It is important to get out and vote. It is the right of every American to do so. People have fought and died over this right and we encourage everyone to take this opportunity to let their voice be heard.

Government is supposed to be of the people, for the people. But if we sit at home and let others make decisions for us, then we are not a part of the political process as the founding fathers intended when they created our form of government.

Perhaps those who care enough to go and cast a vote can play a role in getting others involved.

A lot of times people are unable to get to the poll.

If you know of someone who does not have transportation, offer them a ride.

If they feel disenfranchised, encourage them.

We need to turn this trend of voter apathy around.

Each and every one of us has the responsibility to be a voting member of our society.

Now is the time.

Our country is facing many issues that will greatly affect our way of life in the future.

So we need to get out and vote for candidates who can get the job done going forward.
