Niles, Brandywine have contested school board races

Niles and Brandywine school districts will have contested school board races on the November ballot.

The deadline for filing was Tuesday.

At Brandywine, five people have filed to run for four open seats, according to an unofficial list obtained from the office of the Berrien County Clerk.

They are August Garritano, Dennis Hinsey (incumbent), Ralph Skinner, Jason Spitler and Jerry A. Tibbs.

Current board members Doris Schoenleber, Mike Shelton and Jim Curran all chose not to run again.

At Niles, four people have filed to run for three open full-term seats. They are Leigh Erica Jones, Greg O’Toole (incumbent), Mark Wortham (incumbent) and Brent P. Wright (incumbent, appointed in 2014). Incumbent Jeff Curry is running uncontested for a partial term.

Buchanan will not have a contested race as three people have filed to run for three seats. They are James R. DeVlaminck (incumbent), Sandy Tobler (incumbent) and Dennis Wentworth (incumbent, appointed in 2013).

The election will take place Nov. 7.
