Dance team qualifies for national competition

MMC Competition Team, under the direction of Miss Michele and Co., has had a very busy 2013-2014 Dance Season.

The team has three regional competitions under its belt, which has qualified them to go on to nationals at the Showstopper Dance Convention in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in July.

The first competition of the season was at Tremaine Dance Convention & Competitions in Indianapolis in February. The competitive team brought home one second-place junior award, three second-place teen awards, one first-place teen award, one second-place senior award and one first-place senior award.

The second competition of the season was at Showstopper Competition in Battle Creek in March.  The team won six first-place platinum awards, one second-place platinum award, three first-place gold awards and one fourth-place gold award. The team also placed second, fifth, eighth and ninth in four different performances. The MMC Extreme Pom Team also competed at this competition overall bringing home two first-place platinum and also two first-place overall for their performances.

The last regional of the season for the team took place in Detroit in May, at the Hall of Fame Challenge. MMC Competition Team collectively brought home one gold award, five high gold awards, five first-place high gold awards, four platinum awards and one first-place platinum award. This competition also had judges choice awards and the team received three of them in the group pieces which included “Smiles That Light The Stage”, “Terrific Character” and “Dynamic Divas” award.

Three judges choice awards for individual solos were also awarded as follows: Emma Stanger received the “Best Costume” award for “Codfish Ball”,  Malina Holz received the “Showmanship” award for “Shake it up” and Nina Richardson received the “Passion” award for “Wrecking Ball.” The team also had one duet win a judges choice award; Jacki Winchester-Jones and Normandy Sharma was awarded “Precision” for “Took the Night”.

Lastly five of the competition team members brought home All Star Awards: Emalee Foote, Nina Richardson, Normandy Sharma, Di’maan McGill and Brittany Brooks.
