The Niles City Council on Monday will consider a request by the Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce to hold a craft beer and wine festival at Riverfront Park.

The festival would take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 25. It would feature live music.

“We have been well received on this event and hope to get (it) approved,” said Tyanna Weller, of the Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce. “It is an exciting development for the community.”

A packet presented to the council said the event would serve as a fundraiser for the Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce. It would also double as a way to entice a tasting room to the city.

“We plan to demonstrate all that Niles has to offer,” said Weller. “We want this event to attract 1,000 people to our community in hopes of creating a fun activity and attracting a tasting room in downtown Niles that will give people reasons to come downtown more often.”

If the event is approved, the area in which alcohol is to be consumed must be fenced.

In a separate agenda item, the Four Flags Chamber of Commerce is asking the council for approval to add a beer tent in conjunction with the Bring-It Cruise In car show downtown.

The city council will meet at 6 p.m. at the Niles Fire Station.
