Michigan State police collect nearly 600 pounds of prescription drugs

LANSING — The Michigan State Police (MSP) Tuesday announced that 586.66 pounds of prescription drugs were collected at MSP posts across the state during National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day held on Saturday, April 26.

The MSP partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other local law enforcement agencies for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day to provide a safe, convenient and responsible venue for citizens to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.

Alpena – 17.4 pounds

Brighton – 43 pounds

Cadillac – 5.8 pounds

Calumet – 3 pounds

Caro – 17 pounds

Coldwater – 2.7 pounds

Flint – 101 pounds

Gaylord – 11.3 pounds

Gladstone – 2 pounds

Hart – 6.5 pounds

Houghton Lake – 14 pounds

Iron Mountain – 29.5 pounds

Jackson – 56.6 pounds

Lakeview – 15 pounds

Lansing – 25 pounds

Lapeer – 28 pounds

Metro – 15 pounds

Monroe – 8 pounds

Mt. Pleasant – 10 pounds

Negaunee – 2.25 pounds

Niles – 25 pounds

Paw Paw – 6.11 pounds

Rockford – 70 pounds

Sault Ste. Marie – 35 pounds

St. Ignace – 1.3 pounds

Tri-City – 12 pounds

Wakefield – 2 pounds

Wayland – 13.2 pounds

West Branch – 9 pounds

All 29 MSP posts participated in the one-day effort by serving as drop-off points for citizens to discard expired, unused and unwanted medications for destruction. The service was free and anonymous with no questions asked.
