Dowagiac baseball takes pair from Tigers

BENTON HARBOR — The Dowagiac baseball team swept a non-league doubleheader from Benton Harbor Thursday.

The Chieftains won the opener 15-4 and then took the nightcap 10-8.

In the opener, Matt Smith was 3-for-4 with three triples and four RBIs. Austin Broda was 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs, while Nate Lindsey drove in three runs and Brody Froehlich two.

Zach Williams, who tripled, picked up the victory as he tossed a two-hitter with seven strikeouts.

Smith finished the nightcap 2-for-2 with two doubles and three more RBIs, while Williams was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and an RBI. Broda, Froehlich and Rollie Lucio were all credited with two RBIs.

Mack Charles worked the first five innings, striking out five, to pick up the victory.
