Volunteer of the Week: Roseanne Marchetti, Our Lady of the Lake

Published 8:06 am Thursday, March 20, 2014

Marchetti, of Edwardsburg, volunteers with her church, Our Lady of the Lake Parish, along with her husband Jerry.

Q: What kind of volunteer work do you do with the church?

I have, in the past, helped with funerals. They will call and ask for help with a salad or dessert for the funerals, and I’m always happy to do that. The latest thing that I’ve done is that Jerry and I helped out with the groundbreaking ceremony at Our Lady of the Lake. That was on March 2. We were both co-chairs for the ceremony.

Q: How long have you both been members of the church?

For 12 years.

Q: Why do you both volunteer at Our Lady of the Lake?

We like to do it. We both have a strong affection for our community. We enjoy helping out whenever we can. We were both pretty much raised that way. Jerry’s mom and dad we’re always willing to help with his Little League games. My parents were also very involved with the church. I guess the apple doesn’t fall very far from the tree.

Q: Are there any upcoming projects you are helping with?

Most of what we do with the church is ongoing. We’re always on call.

Q: Do people ever thank you for your volunteer work?

Absolutely. The people we help out are so pleasant, they’re very grateful. We know a lot of them by name. We get back as much as we give.

Q: Any plans to take on any more volunteer work?

If we’re contacted by someone, we’ll do what we can.
