Van hits plow truck in Cass County

A van carrying three young children rear-ended a snowplow Monday afternoon in Cass County.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department reports that at 1:03 p.m. deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on Quaker Street near Gards Prairie Road in Penn Township.

A Cass County snowplow driven by Stephen Benson, 53, of Cassopolis, was westbound on Quaker Street when a van driven by Daniel Wences, 28, of Cassopolis, hit the rear of the snowplow truck. Wences had three children in the vehicle ages 2, 4 and 5. All the children were in approved car restraints.

Pride Care Ambulance responded to the scene and treated the children.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Penn Township Fire Department and Pride Care Ambulance. Seat belts and child restraints were used. Alcohol was not a factor. The accident remains under investigation.
