One good deed deserves another.

So when Eastside Connections students raised nearly $8,000 during a pledge walk, a local credit union decided to match their total.

“We found out right before Christmas (that they would match the total),” said Jessica Knight, parent volunteer. “It was the perfect present. We were absolutely elated. It is such a big chunk of money.”

On Friday, representatives from United Federal Credit Union gathered for a check presentation ceremony in the Eastside gymnasium.

The money will go toward purchasing technology equipment, like laptop computers, for the students at Eastside.

Students raised $7,841 by securing pledges from family and friends. For their part, students walked around the Eastside building for one hour in October.

Students exceeded their goal of raising $7,500.

“To raise that much money just in pledges is incredible and to be able to double it is just unbelievable,” said Stephanie Bruckner, parent volunteer.

It was the most Eastside students have ever raised during a single fundraising drive.

“We are hoping to keep the trend going,” Bruckner said.

The school also recognized the students and classes that raised the most money or secured the most pledges.

They were:

• Jillian Bruckner — Most money raised ($450)

• Sam Knight — Most pledges gathered (35)

• Christine Lace’s class — Most money raised by a class
