Niles City and Niles Township fire departments responded to a structure fire at around 6 p.m. Monday at 725 Oak St. in Niles.

Capt. Don Wise, of the Niles Fire Department, said no one was injured in the blaze and one dog was rescued.

The two-story residence was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived, Wise said.

“The house was pretty well involved when we got there. The family pretty much lost everything,” Wise said. “The structure itself is still sound. Between the heat and the smoke everything is damaged.”

While the main body of the fire was extinguished in a matter of minutes, Wise said it took firefighters more than an hour to put out all the hot spots in the walls.

Wise said no one was home at the time of the fire and the cause remains under investigation.

A neighboring home to the west sustained heat damage to its siding.
