Blake’s 19 points makes Eddies a winner

Alexis Blake scored a game-high 19 points to help lead host Edwardsburg to a 53-42 non-league victory over St. Joseph in the season opener for both teams.

The Eddies grabbed a 10-8 lead over the Bears after one quarter and then outscored St. Joseph 18-11 in the second quarter to open up a 28-19 halftime advantage.

The Bears (0-1) trimmed the lead to eight points by the end of the third quarter, but was outscored 14-11 in the final eight minutes by the Eddies (1-0).

Olivia Hack added 13 points for Edwardsburg, which also got 11 points from Katelynn Rogers.

Tashara Powell led St. Joseph with 12 points. Sarah Punches added 10.
