MATTAWAN – Visiting Niles dropped a heartbreaking five set decision to host Mattawan Wednesday night.

The Vikings were defeated by the Wildcats 25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 21-25 and 15-12.

“My team has been waiting to face Mattawan since last year at districts and we came out intense but a bit nerved up in the first couple sets,” Niles coach Jenny Nate said. “It took us a while to get our serve receive on track and for our team to get in sync. I have a lot of leaders on this team and I’m so proud of the way they kept each other focused after falling short the first two sets.

“They have so much heart and determination and that’s what I love about them. They never give up.  This loss hurts and my girls will remember every point, but we will learn from it and refocus at practice tomorrow in order to keep improving and prepare for our next match.”
