Dowagiac soccer picks up first win

COMSTOCK – Aubrey Huston and Jeremiah Guernsey both had a goal and an assist as visiting Dowagiac picked up its first soccer victory of the season Wednesday night.

The Chieftains scored a goal in each half to defeat the Colts 2-0 in Wolverine Conference play.

Huston opened the scoring just two minutes into the match off an assist from Guernsey.

The two reversed their roles in the second half as Guernsey scored in the 47th minute off an assist from Huston.

Dowagiac outshot Comstock 14-4.

“Defense did a nice job shutting down two strong forwards from Comstockm,” Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said. “It was nice to get a win. Wwe can use this as momentum going into our Chieftain Invitational on Saturday.”

Dowagiac will take on Cassopolis at 10 a.m. and Michigan Lutheran at 1 p.m. in the round robin tournamnent.
