THREE RIVERS — The Niles varsity tennis team went 1-2 at the Three Rivers Quad Wednesday.

The Vikings lost to Mendon 25-23 and 25-21. Niles went three sets against the host Wildcats, falling 25-21, 14-25 and 15-11.

The Vikings rebounded to beat Buchanan 25-20 and 25-17.

“We came out playing a bit nervous and timid tonight against Mendon,” Niles coach Jenny Nate said. “Although we made great comebacks in both sets, we couldn’t close the deal. Against Three Rivers, we battled hard and finally relaxed on the court and started to play our game.  They won the first set, we won the second, and they won the third.

“Our momentum was up after that game and we stayed strong and defeated Buchanan in two sets. We have a lot of work to do. Our younger players and returning players are learning to work together as a team and I have total faith that we will keep getting stronger with each practice.”
