The Niles Burn Run trailer stolen last week has been recovered by police.

A Cass County dispatcher said the trailer was found abandoned on Leet Road just north of U.S. 12 in Cass County around 6 a.m. Tuesday.

A passerby spotted the trailer and contacted the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, which turned the trailer over to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

Scott Roberts, Niles Burn Run president, said the trailer has been identified as the one stolen from the parking lot of Roberts Service Co. on South Third Street in Niles. Roberts said he thought the trailer was taken sometime late June 17 or early June 18.

Niles Burn Run used the trailer to haul supplies to and from events, including the nonprofit organization’s annual escorted motorcycle ride that raises funds for the Great Lakes Burn Camp, a place dedicated to supporting children who have sustained burn injuries.

The trailer was valued at approximately $4,000.

No arrest has been made.

There was an outgoing of support from the community after word of the theft spread.

“We want to thank all our supporters, media outlets and volunteers for helping us to create so much awareness about the theft that the thief would had a difficult time selling the trailer,” Roberts said.  “We also want to thank the countless people and businesses that donated money for replacement of the trailer. We will be contacting each donor with regards to their donations.”
