A 17-year-old boy injured his leg on a boat prop during a boating accident Saturday afternoon in Berrien County.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a report of a boat accident at Bethany Beach in Chikaming Township shortly before 5 p.m.

It was determined that a 17-year-old male had been struck by the prop of a vessel he was attempting to climb back into after having been towed on a tube. The victim was transported to Lakeland-St. Joseph for treatment. Injuries were to the left lower leg. Emergency surgery was not necessary.

Names are being withheld as the incident is still under investigation.

Alcohol was not found to be a factor.
