CENTREVILLE — It took just one swing to end the Division 3 Regional softball semifinal in Centreville Saturday afternoon.

Bronson third baseman Kinslea Blouin, who had been a thorn in Brandywine’s side the entire game, crushed a Mikayla Kemp offering over the 210-foot sign in left center field to give the Vikings a 2-1 victory in 10 innings.

Bronson went on to defeat Hartford 11-0 in six innings to win the regional championship. It was the Vikings’ second regional title in the last four years.

Brandywine was just three outs away from advancing to the finals when Bronson finally was able to push a run across the plate to tie the score at 1-1 in the top of the seventh.

A one-out walk to Allie Smith got the Bronson rally started. Lauren Carey followed with a single and then Smith and Carey worked a double steal to put runners at second and third for Kassidy Bystry, who lifted a sacrifice fly to send the game into extra innings.

Brandywine (29-11) scored what for the longest time looked to be the winning run in the fourth inning.

Rachael Ort singled and scored from first on a double by Kelly Harper. Bronson pitcher Skylar Sobeski was able to keep Harper at second as she struck out the next two batters to limit the damage.

“It was a good game,” Brandywine coach Angela Mellott said. “I was proud of the way we played. This was the first time we’d gotten this far in a while and I was happy about the way we played. Obviously, I would have been happier with a win, but Bronson’s a good team. For the most part we didn’t execute when we had a chance to score. That was the difference.”

Sobeski dominated Brandywine as she tossed a four-hitter with 13 strikeouts.

The Vikings finished with seven hits off of Brandywine’s Kemp, including a double by Blouin, who also made an outstanding play at third in the eighth inning to keep the Bobcats off the scoreboard.

Kemp led off the inning with a double, but was stranded there by Sobeski, who sandwiched a groundout with a pair of strikeouts.

Of Brandywine’s four hits, two were for extra bases.
