CENTREVILLE — Led by senior Jordan Juday, the Dowagiac golf team captured the Division 3 District championship at Island Hills Golf Course Wednesday.
The championship was the second in three years for the Chieftains.
Dowagiac shot 346 to edge Wolverine Conference West Division foe Coloma by four strokes. Schoolcraft finished third with a 351, South Haven fourth with a 358 and Paw Paw fifth with a 390.
Juday shot 81 to earn medalist honors.
Dowagiac also got an 86 from Christian Hess, an 89 from Andrew Wild, a 90 from Jordan Hagemann and a 92 from Paul Lamphere.
“Going in and after having played in the Wolverine Conference Tournament, I thought oh boy, what are we going to get,” Dowagiac coach Van Johnson said. “We just hadn’t played well the last two and a half weeks. Nobody was playing well. I think our best score was an 80 from Andrew Wild.
“I’m really pleased with them overall. To come back and win it was gratifying. We needed a win that’s for sure.”
Juday and Wild could have had much better scores, but ran into pollen on the course and had trouble over the final couple of holes due to allergies.
The Chieftains will now compete in the Division 3 Regional at The Medalist in Marshall next Thursday.
