EDWARDSBURG — Kathryn Nutter scored with 30:49 remaining to lift visiting Mattawan to a 3-2 win over Edwardsburg in the opening round of the Divisoin 2 District Tournament Tuesday.

The Wildcats, who outshot the Eddies 18-4, scored a pair of first half goals to open up a 2-0 advantage.

Jennifer Sporleder cut the Mattawan lead to 2-1 on a goal with 31:05 left in the second half off an assist from Paige Szlanfucht.

Nutter then scored the game-winner for Mattawan with an unassisted goal.

Edwardsburg’s Elyse Clark capped the scoring with an unassisted goal with 2:27 showing on the clock.

“The game was a very one-sided first half in which Mattawan capitalized on their speed advantage all over the field,” Edwardsburg coach Brett Harring said. “They were able to run multiple girls on and off the field to keep constant pressure on the Edwardsburg goal.

“Alexis Blake did a great job in the net keeping Edwardsburg in the game at all times. The second half was much more entertaining as both teams were playing at a fast pace and made for a lot of chances on goal.”
