Dowagiac golfers third after first round

Otsego fired the first shot in the battle for the Wolverine Conference Golf Championships Monday.

The Bulldogs invaded Hampshire Country Club, the home of Dowagiac, and walked away with a nine-stroke victory over runner-up Coloma.

Otsego shot 310 on a hot, humid and windy day. The Comets finished with a 319. Dowagiac was third with 329. Rounding out the top five were Three Rivers (343) and Edwardsburg (348).

The Bulldogs’ Logan Haight and Trevor Wolthuis both shot 76 to share medalist honors. Otsego also had Evan Stack (78) and Taylor Kizer (80) finish in the top 10.

Dowagiac was led by Jordan Juday and Andrew Wild, both of whom shot 80. Paul Lamphere shot 84 and Jordan Hagemann 85.

Edwardsburg was led by Cory Stoneburner’s 81. Dante Razzano finished with an 86, Dean Duke 89, Josh Kozinski 92 and Ryan Rivers 97.

The second round of the Tournament will be played Thursday at Prairiewood in Otsego.
