Edwardsburg Sports Complex receives donationsPublished 1:31pm Thursday, May 9, 2013
The Edwardsburg Sports Complex continues to grow under the direction of its new executive director Bret Hendrie.
Hendrie, formerly with the Niles-Buchanan YMCA, was named the complex’s first executive director back in October. Hendrie brings more than 30 years of experience in the non-profit arena.
Among the things currently going on at the complex, thanks to a donation of $5,095 by Meijer, a soccer/football and a baseball/softball scoreboard were purchased.
The scoreboards will be installed as soon as primary work can be completed on those fields.
Despite some iffy weather, the spring soccer season is under way and going well.
According to Matt Baldwin, league president, there are 18 head coaches and more than 12 assistants this season.
The league plays games mainly on Saturday with some games being made up during the week. Practices are held Monday through Thursday for the various teams.
Registration for the fall season will begin shortly and turn through July. Coaches’ meetings will begin in late July and early August with play scheduled to begin Sept. 7.
Meijer isn’t the only sponsor helping out the Edwardsburg Sports Complex.
1st Source Bank has donated $5,000, which will be used in the next phase of construction.
Mark your calendar for June 1 because that when the fourth annual Edwardsburg Sports Complex Golf Outing will be held at Hampshire Country Club.
