“The Audition” will be presented by the Cassopolis Thespian Troupe 2323 this weekend at Ross Beatty High School.

The play will be presented in the auditorium at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and again at 2 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for the general public and $4 for students and senior citizens.

Director Jean Porath originally wrote “The Audition” as a 20-minute play for the Lakeland Fine Arts Festival a few years back.

It was so well received that she turned it into a complete production.

“It takes place in one day,” Porath said. “Two casting directors are casting for a play and they are besieged by a lot of really bad acting and people who are not quite all there and a variety of very colorful characters who come in. They get more and more frustrated as the day goes on.

“I wanted to do one of my own. So we decided to do that, so I elaborated. I added a story line for one of the casting directors. He’s considering getting married so we have a little bit of fun with that. I added a character June, who is their “gopher” and all day long she comes in dressed as various characters trying to audition. She think’s being kind of sly. We have a trumpet player who keeps coming in and Tom (Bosler) keeps yelling at him that this is not a musical audition.”

Tom Bosler plays Andy Rinnard and Molly Moroz plays Tracy Gilbertson, the two casting directors. Amelia Ayers plays the “gopher” June.
