Brandywine track team posts easy victory

The Brandywine boys track team navigated some nasty weather conditions and cruised to a dominating victory in a meet which it hosted Monday.

The Bobcats scored 200.5 points, while runner-up Cassopolis finished at a distance with 56.3 points. River Valley was third with 51.16 points, Lake Michigan Catholic score 31 points to finish fourth and Grace Christian rounded out the field in fifth with 12 points.

Michael Robbins led Brandywine with four first-place finishes as he won both the 1600- and 800-meter runs and was a member of both the winning 4×400 (with Wyatt Eager, Alex Ulrickson, and Andrew Duckett) and 4×800-meter relay teams (with Collin Mattiford, Tyler Danner, and Zach Schmidt).

Courtlan Gordon and Duckett each were triple winners for the Bobcats. Gordon combined with Matt Kline, Michael Shelton, and Cody Brackett to win the 4×200-meter relay before adding the 400- and 200-meter dash titles. Along with 4×400-meter relay win, Duckett added first place finishes in the 110-meter hurdle and the 4×100-meter relay (with Kline, Ulrickson, and Bracket).

Evan Hartman won both the shot put and the discus for the Bobcats, while Nathan Anders also scored two first-place finishes for Brandywine in the 300-meter hurdles and long jump competitions.

Cassopolis picked up championships in the 100-meters with Evan Brown and the long jump with Robert Saxton.

Lake Michigan Catholic ran away with the girls’ competition scoring 123 points. Cassopolis was second with 75 points

River Valley finished third with 61 points, Grace Christian fourth with 36 points and Brandywine rounded it out with 26.

The Bobcats’ Emily Pedzinski won the high jump with a height of four-feet.

The Rangers won both the 4×100 and 4×200-meter relays. Breanna Coleman, Nakiela Sinclair, Kaylyn Forrest and Sheridan Curry made up the 4×200-meter team, while Janye Butts,Kortnei Suggs,  Coleman, and Forrest made up the 4×100-meter team.

Forrest and Coleman also added a third top finish to their day by winning the 200- and 100-meter dashes respectively.
