A two-run sixth inning rallied the host Brandywine Bobcats past New Buffalo 9-8 in a game that lasted three hours and 10 minutes Saturday.

The Bobcats were defeated by Parchment in the third and final game of the tournament 15-5 in six innings.

Parchment took on New Buffalo in the second game of the round robin.

In the decisive sixth inning, Mike Pancoast drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on an infield single by Kyle Duncan. Kyle Basly then reached on a fielder’s choice allowing Pancoast to advance to third.

Duncan was forced out at second on the play for the first out of the inning.

Tanner Bourdon followed with a sacrifice, which scored Pancoast with the tying running, while Basly moved to second.

Alec Nichols drove in the winning run with a double.

The Bison (0-1) walked the bases loaded with one out before Brock Hartline struck out the last two batters to earn a save for winning pitcher Alex Walters.

Walters came on in the sixth in relief of starter Kyle Duncan and Matt Vaughn.

“I was real happy with the way Alex came in and got some outs,” Brandywine coach David Sidenbender said. “Brock struck out the last two to preserve the win.”

Brandywine (1-1) also scored a run in the first, two in the second and three in the fourth to account for it’s scoring.

New Buffalo led 1-0 after a half inning, but trailed 6-1 heading into the top half of the fifth where it scored four times to cut the lead to 6-5. A three-run top of the sixth gave the Bison an 8-7 lead.

Brian Kline was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Basly and Bourdon both had one hit and two RBIs. Nichols and Seth Brown both drove in runs for the Bobcats.

“I was really happy with the win,” Sidenbender said. “We are young a several key positions and we battled out there today. Hitting wise we put the ball in play. We had the bases loaded the first two innings. I really thought hitting would be our issue. I thought today we did a good job putting the ball in play and making them make plays.”

In the final game of the round robin, the Panthers used a five-run third inning to break the game open. The game was deadlocked at 4-4 heading into the third.

Pancoast had two hits for Brandywine, including a double. Basly had the only other hit for the Bobcats.

Walters suffered the loss in relief of starter Cole Searles.
