Police seize 16 pot plants, crack cocaine from Buchanan home

A Buchanan man is under arrest after police seized more than a dozen marijuana plants, processed marijuana and crack cocaine from a residence in the 800 block of Victory Street in Buchanan Thursday.

Jamal Aleem Cashier, 35, is being held at the Berrien County Jail awaiting arraignment on several drug charges, according to a report by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

Sixteen marijuana plants, one pound of processed marijuana, seven grams of crack cocaine and other evidence of illegal narcotic trafficking were found in the residence during the execution of a search warrant by police. It occurred around 3 p.m. Thursday.

Officers seized a 2001 Lincoln Navigator and a video surveillance camera system under the state’s civil forfeiture law.

The Berrien County Sheriff Department’s Narcotics Unit conducted the search warrant with assistance from sheriff road patrol, Buchanan police and the FBI-Violent Crimes Task Force.
