CASSOPOLIS — Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr. reports deputies responded to a one-car traffic crash on M-51 at Downey Street in Silver Creek Township at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigation of the crash showed a vehicle driven by Alex Engelman, 21, of Kalamazoo, was southbound on M-51.

Engelman attempted to pass a slow-moving vehicle and lost control of his car. Engelman’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Engelman was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment for his injuries.

Engelman was wearing his seatbelt. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Assisting at the scene were Pokagon Tribal Police, Dowagiac Police Department, Sister Lakes Fire Department and Pride Care Ambulance.
