The Brandywine basketball team steamrolled to its 17th consecutive win of the season drubbing visiting Berrien Springs 76-39 Tuesday night.

The No. 2-ranked Bobcats overwhelmed the Shamrocks from the onset of the game scoring the game’s opening 12 points en route to building a 27-7 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Brandywine used its patented high-pressure defense and heavy barrage of 3-point shots to pull away from Berrien Springs and put the Shamrocks in a 44-13 hole at the half.

Brandywine senior guard Rachael Ort did her best Ray Allen impression knocking down six treys while scoring her career-high 24 points. Emily Erwin, Mackenzie Shelton and Tiarra Hullinger each contributed 10 points in the victorious effort.

Bobcat coach Josh Hood was happy with his team’s offensive output, but noted that the defense will need some improvement with the district tournament looming.

“When you can score over 40 points in the first half of a girls varsity game, you know you have the pace. But defensively our rotation wasn’t as good as it needs to be and we gave up a too many bunnies,” he said. “Our girls realize we have a week and a half to fine tune some things before we play a tough district schedule, they’ll come ready to work and get better.”

Shamrock senior forward Stephanie Ott led Berrien Springs with 18 points and sophomore guard Micah Davis had six for the game.

The Bobcats will hit the hardwood again when they travel to play Bronson on Friday.
