Stephen William Sheldon, 66, of Anderson Road in Cassopolis, Mich., died at 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at his home, unexpectedly, but of natural causes. He was born on Oct. 6, 1946 in Niles, Mich., to Marvin William and Leola (Baird) Sheldon. He was graduated from Brandywine High School in Niles, and has lived here all of his life. As a young man, he was a carpenter, helping in the family’s house construction business.  He was a Veteran of the Viet Nam Era, serving in the United States Army.

Floyd attended the First Church of Christ, Scientist in South Bend, Ind. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Family Center #599 in Elkhart, Ind., and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed golfing, typically at Plym Park or Hampshire; and ice fishing. He also enjoyed caring for his family.

On Oct. 1, 1977 he married the former Phyllis McLaughlin who survives. Also surviving are his mother, Leola Sheldon of Niles; brothers and sisters, Terry (& Bev) Sheldon of Niles, Wayne (& Brenda) Sheldon of Culver, Ind., Christy Sheldon of Niles, Kenny (& Ann) Sheldon of Dowagiac, Mich., and Tammy (& Kevin) Enders of Benton Harbor, Mich.; and many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.

The family of Stephen Sheldon is gathering privately for services at the Mausoleum Chapel of Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles with Christian Science Readings by his brother, Wayne Sheldon. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
