CASSOPOLIS  – Visiting White Pigeon ended up on the wrong end of the score against the Cassopolis girls and boys basketball teams Thursday and Friday nights.

The Lady Rangers (5-8) got things started for Cassopolis as they beat the Chiefs 45-42 in an overtime thriller on Thursday night.

After three lackluster quarters of play and trailing 25-21; Cass ignited for 17 points in the fourth quarter and extended the game to overtime where they outscored the Chiefs 7-4 to secure the victory.

Freshman guard Jaleesa Garner led the Rangers’ attack as she poured in 15-points, while senior forward Jade Gatson added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Rangers.

Haley Miller led the Chiefs with 15 points.

The Friday night Homecoming game saw the Rangers even their record at 6-6 with a dominating 69-39 victory.

The Rangers used their swarming defense and fast -offense to run away with the game early. Cass held a 21-point lead heading into halftime and built its lead as high as 35 points in the second half.

Senior Ranger guard Kenneth Carson led all scorers with 20-points and senior forward Tyler Prestley added nine-points.

“We’re finally bringing it together, Kenneth (Carson) played his best game all year, the defense was outstanding, and we didn’t turn the ball over,” said Ranger coach Ricky Evens. “If we continue to play defense like that we’ll be dangerous.”

The Cassopolis basketball programs will return to action Friday when Brandywine comes to town. The Lady Rangers game starts at 6:00 and the boy’s game starts at 7:30.
