Five injured in crash on M-51

A two-vehicle crash resulting in injuries to five was investigated by Cass County sheriff’s dekputies on M-51 near Swamp Street in Wayne Township at 2:57 p.m. Saturday, according to Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr.

A southbound vehicle driven by Roger Kirksey, 49, of Niles, and passengers Dalton Kirksey, 18,of Niles, Donna McAbe 36, of Niles, and a juvenile were heading south when Roger Kirksey said he believes he fell asleep and the vehicle ran off the roadway to the right. He lost control and crossed the center line and struck a northbound vehicle head on and then rolled and ejected McAbee out of the vehicle.

The northbound vehicle was driven by Michelle Rozmarymowski, 37, of South Bend, Ind.. The vehicle also carried a passenger, Thomas Rozmarynowski, 41, of South Bend, Ind.

Both drivers were extricated from the vehicles. All occupants were transported to area hospitals for injuries. Airbags were deployed in both vehicles, and safety belts were worn by front-seat passengers and the juvenile.

Cass County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted on scene by Silver Creek PD, Pokagon Tribal PD, Pride Care ambulance, Life Care ambulance, Wayne Twp Fire and Dowagiac Fire.
