SMC names Becky Moore to board

The Board of Trustees of Southwestern Michigan College at its regular meeting Nov. 19 appointed Becky L. Moore, CPA, of Cassopolis, to its board after accepting the resignation of Eric Coles for personal reasons.

“We are sorry Mr. Coles resigned, but we appreciate his eight months of service on the board,” said Fred Mathews, board chairman. “The board is very pleased to make this appointment. Mrs. Moore has a long and distinguished career in business and community service to the people of the college district. Over the years, Mrs. Moore has attended Southwestern Michigan College for many credit courses in furthering her education. She has a strong and long-term association with Southwestern Michigan College.”

Moore attended Marcellus High School, Southwestern Michigan College and graduated from Western Michigan University in 1984. In 1985, she began her career in public accounting with the firm of Alexander Grant, of Kalamazoo. Alexander Grant became Grant Thornton.

When Moore left Grant Thornton, she accepted a position with BDO Seidman in Kalamazoo. After several years with BDO, focusing primarily in the area of governmental auditing, she accepted the position of finance officer with Lewis Cass Intermediate School Disrict.  After several years at Lewis Cass ISD, Accounting Consultants, PC was formed by Moore in Dowagiac.

Accounting Consultants, PC provides accounting, tax and consulting services to business, government and not-for-profit entities in a 100-mile radius of Dowagiac. Accounting Consultants, PC employs five to eight individuals and has recently worked with SMC to recruit individuals from its new graduate pool. She is also a member of the supervisory committee of Dowagiac Area Federal Credit Union.

Moore and her husband, Jim, reside on Engle Street, Cassopolis. Jim is a shareholder in Moore Brothers Enterprises Inc.

Her outside interests include perennial gardening, quilting, golfing, exercise and travel. Moore previously served on the Cass County Fair Board and is a member of various CPA-related professional organizations.
