SMC’s Anderson wins school seat

Eric Coles lost his seat on the Edwardsburg Board of Education to challenger Amy Anderson, but he was re-elected as a Southwestern Michigan College trustee.

Anderson, SMC’s Educational Talent Search director, tallied 1,785 votes to 1,139 for Coles and 1,071 for chemist Daniel Brown.

Coles was named on 12,899 ballots for the remainder of Jan Kairis’ term.

Beth Cripe also received a partial term with 13,804 votes.

The chairman and vice chairman, Fred L. Mathews (12,501) and Keith McKenzie (11,307) were re-elected to new terms Tuesday without opposition.
