Brandywine volleyball set to face Schoolcraft

For the second time in three years, the Brandywine volleyball team will compete in the Class C Regional Tournament.

The Bobcats, who defeated New Buffalo 3-1 Friday night to claim the district title, will face Schoolcraft in the opening round Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The winner advances to take on either Bangor or Kalamazoo Christian in Thursday’s regional final at Watervliet High School.

The Eagles (35-14-2) advanced to the regional with a 25-16, 26-10 and 25-12 win over Constantine in the district title match. Schoolcraft advanced to the finals with 25-11, 25-18 and 25-10 win over White Pigeon in the opening round of the tournament.

Marianne Douglas led the Eagles offensively in the title match with 11 kills and seven digs, Kara Craig finished with 10 kills and Laura Baumann seven digs.

Camille Giacobone makes the offense go for Schoolcraft as she had 33 assists and nine aces in the title match.

Against White Pigeon, Craig had eight kills, three blocks and three aces. Kari Feddema and Sidney Hazervink each had eight kills for the balanced Eagles offense.

Brandywine will be led by seniors Mackenzie Shelton and Jessy Cooper.

The two combined for 42 kills in the title match against the Bison. Shelton had 25 kills in the championship match and 21 kills in the semifinals against Bridgman.

Cooper, who splits time between setting and hitting, had 23 kills and 51 assists against New Buffalo and Bridgman.

Tickets, which are available at the door, are $5 per person. No passes are honored at MHSAA tournament events.
