Brandywine and visiting Dowagiac wrapped up their regular seasons with the Bobcats earning the 3-0 victory in non-conference volleyball Tuesday.

Brandywine defeated the Chieftains 25-11, 25-14 and 25-18.

The Bobcats celebrated senior night and Brandywine coach Carl Greulich played his seniors all the way around in the opening set.

Brandywine got off to a 3-0 lead, which it built to 14-6 and then cruised home with the win.

In the second set, Dowagiac put up a bit more of a fight.

After trailing early, Hunter Goins served the Chieftains into a 6-6 tie with the Bobcats.

Brandywine won nine of the next 15 points to take a 15-12 lead, which it quickly turned into an 11-point victory.

The Bobcats grabbed a quick 3-0 lead in the third set only to have Dowagiac come back to tie it at 3-3 and take a brief 4-3 advantage on a Brittany Williams kill.

The two teams would battle back and forth over the next five points with the two teams being deadlocked at 8-8.

Brandywine won six of the next eight points to lead 14-10. The Chieftains made one last charge, cutting the lead to 16-14.

The Bobcats then sealed the deal by winning five of the next seven points for a 21-16 advantage.

“That first game we got three or four points down and we just went flat,” Dowagiac coach Sara Lawrence said.

Seniors Jessy Cooper and Mackenzie Shelton both had a big night for the Bobcats.

“We got the seniors in and we played them all the way around the first game and they had fun,” Greulich said. “Mackenzie had an awesome night. Jessy obviously had a really tough night because she had to chase so many balls down, but she did a good job of getting them back in control, Vic (Knight) had a nice night serving.

“I’m happy with where we are at and I’m looking forward to the conference tournament Thursday. That’s a big a big night for us.”
