PORTAGE – The Niles football team was unable to snap its string of losing seasons Friday night.
The Vikings travels to Portage Central in hopes of reversing its trend of 4-5 campaigns. Niles has not had a winning season since 2003.
The Mustangs scored the game’s first 42 points and defeated the Vikings 42-13 to finish the regular season at 6-3 and qualify for the state playoffs.
Anthoney Bice caught a 65-yard touchdown pass from Cole Clemens and Darek Bullock-Mills scored on a 30-yard run on the quarterback keeper to account for Niles’ scoring.
DeJuan James and Jacob Allan each had a pair of touchdowns for the Mustangs.
“We start our off season workouts in two weeks,” first-year Niles coach Antwon Jones said. “We did what we could with the cards we were dealt. We have no plans of revisiting another season like this one.
“We have a lot of young talent. We need to get in the weight room and get stronger. We have a lot of big kids who are not very strong right now.”
