Dowagiac freshmen, JV beat Edwardsburg

EDWARDSBURG – The Dowagiac freshmen and JV football team swept host Edwardsburg Thursday.

The Chieftain freshmen squad defeated the Eddies 34-14 to improve to 5-3 on the season.

Brandon Winchester-Jones, Jared Hatch and Scott Hassle all scored touchdowns for Dowagiac. Hatch and Austin Taggart added 2-point conversions.

Defensively, the Chieftains were led by Piedra Lazaro and Dakota Sandberg, both of whom recovered fumbles.

Dowagiac will wrap up its season at Otsego Thursday. The Chieftains will be hoping to avenge a Week 2 loss to the Bulldogs.

 

JV football

The Dowagiac JV football team blanked the host Eddies 54-0.

Bryce Dodd threw for three touchdowns, two of which went to Anthony Burling and the other to Jason Pressely.

Burling and Pressely also ran for touchdowns. Rolando Lucia and Cody Payne added touchdowns for the Chieftains.
“We played well in all aspects of the game,” Dowagiac coach Matt Alward said. “I was very proud of the team.

“We really flew around and played well on defense and never punted on offense. All in all, a good team effort tonight.”
