The Brandywine tennis team won six of the eight flight championships to successfully defend its Lakeland Conference championships at Plym Park Thursday.

The Bobcats easily captured the outright championship as they scored 14 points compared to Bridgman’s eight points. Buchanan finished third with two points.

Brandywine was 2-0 during the regular season, while the Bees were 1-1.

“I’m really excited about it,” Brandywine coach David Sidenbender said. “Even with the smaller conference I hoped we would compete, but we had a lot of new players. I thought our singles would be good enough, but our doubles were all new players for us basically. They came through for us this year. They’ve improved a lot and hopefully they will continue to.”

Brandywine had three singles champions, including a pair of back-to-back winners.

Chance Smith defeated Brandon Mensinger of Bridgman to claim the No. 2 singles title, while Tanner Bourdon defeated Buchanan’s Luke Higgins to win the No. 3 crown.

The Bobcats swept the doubles flights, which included a three-set thriller at the second flight.

Alex Brooks and Jordan Hunt outlasted Bridgman’s Matt Starkey and Nick Knowlton 6-4, 4-6 and 6-4.

Bridgman had two conference champions.

Zach Bauer defeated Brandywine’s Michael Robbins in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to win the title at No. 1 singles.

Dominic Milano and Ed Shaver defeated Brandywine’s Matt Vaughn and Lukas Hoffman at No. 1 doubles 7-6 and 6-0.

The Bobcats will be very busy next week.

On Monday, the team will travel to South Haven to make up the match that was postponed Thursday in order to complete the conference tournament.

The Bobcats host Berrien Springs in a non-league match Tuesday for its regular season home finale.

On Wednesday, Brandywine heads to Three Rivers for a non-conference match before competing in the Division 4 Regional Tournament at Leeper Park in South Bend Thursday.
