STEVENSVILLE — The Dowagiac JV football team is 2-0 against former long-time rivals following its 27-20 win against Lakeshore Thursday.

The Chieftains, who two weeks ago defeated Niles, held the Lancers scoreless in the second half for the victory.

“We’re really happy about the win as a coaching staff,” Dowagiac coach Matt Alward said. “We knew we were playing a quality opponent and it’s always nice to go in and have an opportunity to play against a good opponent.

“To be able to win is a testament to how hard our kids are working and playing right now. Even though we gave up 20 points, we really played good defense. We put ourselves in some bad positions, but in the second half we stopped them in the red zone three times and held them scoreless.”

Bryce Dodd threw a pair of touchdown passes to Devin Chapman and Chase Camp.

Brandon Hatch scored the other two touchdowns for the Chieftains.
