Sophomore Samuel Rodts scored four goals to lead host Niles to a 7-3 non-conference victory over Three Rivers Wednesday.

Rodts scored two goals in each half for the Vikings, who improve to 3-0 on the year.

Rodts scored the opening goal just 50 seconds into the match. His second goal of the first half came in the 31st minute and gave Niles a 5-0 advantage.

The Vikings also got a pair of goals from Graham Hoppstock and a goal from Chase Hullinger in the opening 40 minutes.

In the second half, Rodts scored twice, in the 47th and 58th minute, to cap the scoring for Niles.

Two of the three goals for the Wildcats came as the result of a penalty kick. Both were scored by Riley Siefert.

Siefert averted the shutout with his first penalty kick in the 35th minute. His second goal completed the scoring for Three Rivers in the 62nd minute.

In between the penalty kicks, Joel Pangborn scored in the 49th minute to account for all the Wildcat scoring.

Niles’ keeper Ryan Casey was rarely tested in the match outside of the two penalty kicks. He stopped four of Three Rivers’ six shots on goal.

Wildcats’ keeper Andrew Adams faced 19 shots and stopped 11 of them.

Despite the victory, first-year Niles coach Dave Jacobs was not happy with his team’s performance in the second half.

“We played down to their game in the second half,” he said. “I’m kind of disappointed in my guys actually. I expected a lot more out of them. First half was okay, I could live with it. Then we started going to sleep at the end of the first half and we stayed in bed.”
