Kyle Slack named All-State

Edwardsburg’s Kyle Slack and Brandywine’s Austin Searles were named Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association first team All-State.

The Bobcats’ Alex Erwin was a second team selection.

Slack was a Division 2 pick. The Edwardsburg senior was 11-1 on the mound to help lead the Eddies to the Lakeland Conference championship.

Slack had an ERA of 0.57 with 105 strikeouts in 61 innings of work. He gave up 22 hits and only walked nine batters.

At the plate, the Toledo University bound product hit .304 with seven doubles, three home runs and 24 RBIs.

Slack was the winning pitcher in the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association East-West All-Star Baseball Classic at Comerica Park in Detroit.

Slack went two innings, allowing an unearned run, one hit and struck out three.

Searles hit .431 with nine doubles, three triples and three home runs. He also drove in 24 RBIs for Brandywine.

Searles also earned Division 3 All-District and All-Regional honors.

Erwin was 6-6 on the mound for the Bobcats with an ERA of 1.25. He struck out 89 batters in 70 innings of work. At the plate, Erwin hit .444 with 14 extra-base hits and a team-high 29 RBIs.
