Niles sweeps Maroon Giants

After weeks of working its way through an extremely tough schedule with ranked opponent after ranked opponent, the Niles softball team got a bit of a breather Tuesday.

The Vikings swept a pair of Big 16 Conference West Division softball games from visiting Kalamazoo Central. Both games lasted just five innings.

Niles won the opening game 13-1 behind a two-hitter by Molly VanDeKeere. The Vikings then completed the sweep with an 11-0 win in the second game.

Megan McKeel picked up the win with relief help from VanDeKeere. The pair combined on a two-hitter.

Niles blasted the ball over the park, finishing with three home runs and two doubles out of its 10 hits in the first game, Niles had three doubles and nine hits in the second contest.

Sarah Cramer and Tala Gentry each had a big day at the plate. Gentry singled, doubled and homered, while Cramer doubled and homered. VanDeKeere had an inside-the-park home run.

Courtney Ankrapp added a pair of hits.

In the second game, Brooke Wilson had a pair of singles and a double for the Vikings. Ankrapp finished with two doubles.
