NILES — Edwardsburg’s Kyle Slack tossed a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts as the visiting Eddies swept Brandywine in Lakeland Conference baseball action Tuesday.

The Eddies scored six runs in the seventh to defeat the Bobcats 10-0 in the opener. Edwardsburg came back and won the nightcap 4-1.

Slack faced the minimum 21 batters, but an error by the Eddies cost him a perfect game as he did not walk a batter.

Edwardsburg finished with 12 hits, led by Matt Toney, who was 2-for-4 with a double. Michael Kempton and Maris Marazita both finished with two hits.

Slack helped his own cause with a grand slam. Austin Meadows had a double and two RBIs.

“Kyle had great command of his pitches today,” Edwardsburg coach A.J. Gaideski said. “He was throwing all of his pitches for strikes, keeping them off balance.  When Kyle has his location he is very difficult to hit.

“Kyle also had a lot of success at the plate today with a grand slam and home run. After his first two at bats he was hitting the ball on the nose, sometimes the ball found holes and other times they were hit right at them but hit on the button.”

In the nightcap, Jordon Bosse scattered five hits for the Eddies, striking out five.

Marazita was 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Edwardsburg offense. Caleb Dill also had two hits, including a double.

Michael Schoenleber went the distance for the Bobcats, allowing four runs on eight hits.

The Bobcats got singles from Kyle Duncan, Brad Millin, Brad Kline, Mike Pancoast and Alex Walters.
